Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to common questions from Body Corporates and Property Managers.

General Questions?

Do your packages depend on the size of our complex?

No. Package choice has nothing to do with size.
It’s based on who holds control, who carries the risk, and who manages the bulk account, not the number of units.

Bronze, Silver, and Gold work for any size property.

Why do you offer three packages?

Because every property works differently.
Some Body Corporates want to stay in full control, others want to share responsibility, and some want a fully outsourced solution with zero financial risk.

The packages simply reflect the level of risk transfer to SOS.

What happens if a tenant doesn’t pay?

Bronze: Body Corporate responsibility
Silver: Shared responsibility, SOS manages billing & collection
Gold: SOS carries all risk, including disconnection and recovery

In the Gold package, SOS handles everything, including council payments.

Do you manage the bulk council account?

Only in the Gold package.
In Bronze and Silver, the Body Corporate remains responsible for the bulk meter bill.

Do you install prepaid meters?

Yes.
Our certified electrical technicians install, configure, and test prepaid meters for accuracy and compliance.

We follow SANS & NERSA aligned practices.

Readings, Billing & Reporting

How often do you read meters and send reports?

Every month.
You receive photo-verified readings and a monthly consumption report in PDF & Excel format.

This includes:

  • kWh usage
  • Rand value
  • Bulk-to-unit reconciliation
Can we view historical reports?

Yes.
All data is digitally stored, and past reports are available for audits, analysis, and dispute resolution.

Do you provide photographic proof of each reading?

Yes.
Every unit reading is backed by a dated photograph for full transparency.

This is one of the key reasons billing disputes disappear.

Do you issue invoices to individual residents?

Yes.
In all packages, SOS issues individual invoices based on actual consumption.

The difference is who collects the money.

How does billing work in Silver and Gold?

Silver:
SOS bills, collects, and transfers the revenue to the Body Corporate.

Gold:
SOS bills, collects, and pays the council directly.

Accuracy & Compliance

Who does the technical work?

All work is performed by qualified electrical technicians, not general contractors.

We ensure the system stays safe, accurate, and compliant.

Can you test meter accuracy?

Yes.
We provide meter accuracy testing, bulk audits, and load profiling as part of our specialist paid services.

Are your installations compliant with national standards?

Yes.
All installations and testing are aligned with SANS & NERSA guidelines.

Customisation & Pricing

Can you tailor a package for us?

Yes.
We provide custom proposals based on your specific metering setup and risk preference.

We start with a free site audit, then recommend the best model.

How do we know which package is right for us?

It depends on two questions:

  1. Do you want to keep control of the bulk meter?
  2. Do you want to carry any financial risk?

Bronze = full control and full risk
Silver = shared control and shared risk
Gold = SOS full control and all risk

After a free audit, this becomes very clear.

What does a free site audit include?

A technician will:

  • inspect your current meter setup
  • identify improvements and risks
  • check labeling, tampering signs, or irregularities
  • confirm meter compatibility
  • provide a summary report and recommendation

You can decide from there.

Support & Next Steps

How quickly do you respond to support issues?

Our support team is available business hours, and urgent issues are prioritised.

We understand power is mission-critical.

What’s the first step?

Request a free site audit, we’ll assess your setup and advise on the best package.
